Christopher Nolan to "help out" with the development of a Superman Reboot

makingofmovies:

Since the new Batman movies completely redeemed what had become a pretty campy franchise, we’ve been hearing about new reboots for super-hero flicks all over the place.  Spiderman’s doing it (sadly without Wes Anderson on board), The Hulk did it (about a week after the first one came out), and (I know this isn’t a reboot, but I want to bring it up because it’s awesome) Michel Gondry is directing Seth Rogan in The Green Hornet.

So, when they decided to reboot Superman, which “will definitely not be a follow-up to Superman Returns,” they got good ol’ Christopher Nolan to come over and help (not write or direct) breathe some new life into perhaps the most iconic superhero of all time.

[There’s also a small segment in the article this links to about a third Batman, so read up.]

I’m excited by this news, but do you guys think Superman has the same potential as Batman to be re-imagined and re-packaged?

  5. ferrydust answered: Yes, same potential. However, it’s a very different story; different genre in some ways. Hopefully they’ll be respectful of Superman’s roots.

  9. zeth609 answered: I think we’re all tired of seeing the origins of Superman. Most of all I think we’re tired of Lex Luthor as main villain.
  10. 01001010t answered: Nope. If his only weakness is kryptonite, how is an audience supposed to relate to him? He will always be the worst superhero in my book.

  19. andrewtsks answered: Grant Morrison did a good job of making him interesting in his All Star Superman series. Other than that, I agree, he’s boring.

  24. 990000 answered: *Thankly* without Wes Anderson on board. Superman — absolutely. Huge opportunity for better writing as in XMen, Spiderman, Batman.
  25. neilson answered: It could work. It’d be interesting to see.
  26. denato-world answered: perhaps…. superman is unbelievable and you can’t modernize and make it believable like batman. i think they should stick to the 50’s there.
